- I put the PRO in procrastinator. This is something I hate about myself but I’m SO bad at it. I always wait until the last minute to get things done. For example, I waited until one month before my green card expired to FINALLY apply for my citizenship when I could have done it 5 years before, geez!
- I did’t start liking peanut butter or Tabasco sauce until I was 25 years old. I don’t know why but I used to think they were disgusting, even the smell of them would make me gag. Now I eat them almost daily haha. So weird.
- I discovered I was an entrepreneur at an early age. When I was about 7-8 years old my grandma used to make muffins to sell. She used to send me to sell them around the neighborhood. I never liked when people would tell me no. So I started asking a few of my friends to come with me and help me sell them, I would “pay them” at the end of our shift with a muffin. I would wait in the corner for them and only went to the houses where I had loyal costumers. So I had girls “working” for me from an early age lol.
- I have a dry and sarcastic sense of humor.
- I absolutely dislike weak handshakes, one of my pet peeves. You better give me a firm, strong handshake while looking me in the eyes if we ever meet in person!
- In 8th grade I went through an emo/punk/rocker phase where I used to wear only black and occasionally jeans, with a black top of course. I use to oil my hair every day, and when I say oil, I mean pour like half a bottle of baby oil in my hair. I used to listen to Nirvana, Linkin Park, Metallica and other bands but I had NO IDEA what they were saying because I didn’t speak a word of English at the time. I’m seriously dying laughing thinking about it and how I used to “sing” those songs.
- I HAVE to eat breakfast every day, even if I wake up late, I won’t eat anything if it’s not breakfast food.
- I cannot sleep on my back.
- I get horrible anxiety when I fly. It didn’t use to bother me but the last few years I have been so afraid to fly.
- I hate having my legs or arms trapped, especially on the blankets or when someone tries to wrestle me. I freak out.
- I’m the oldest of all my cousins from both sides of the family.
- My car looks like a scene from hoarders 99% of the time 😩
- I talk in my sleep, I even cry out loud when I have bad dreams and I have hit Dennis after he cheated on me in my dreams.
- My favorite ice cream flavors are pistachio almond, nutty coconut, Cherry Garcia and butter pecan.
- I love reading but I rarely finish the books I start. I have lost count of how many times I have started “One hundred years of solitude” but never finish reading it.
- I have psoriasis and it’s really bad in my scalp.
- I love Thai food.
- When I met Steve Nash at the Phoenix Open I had no idea who he was. I was 19 years old. He shook my hand and said “nice to meet you, I’m Steve Nash” so I replied “nice to meet you too I’m Karla Marquez” (lol) he just stood there shaking my hand and it was such an awkward moment. My friends all laughed at me when he left.
- I get easily distracted and it got WORSE after having kids.
- I once translated in a meeting where the FBI, CIA, ICE, Phoenix PD and big time criminal were all in the same room.
- I’m not a morning person.
- I love freaking love GIFs.
- I claim I’m good at sports but I’m not very athletic.
- I cannot control myself from laughing when I see someone falling. I also laugh at the most inappropriate moments and can’t stop myself either.
- I love furry socks.
- In 1990 we lost everything in a flood (google tromba del 90 Chihuahua) my home became a small kinder garden room that was turned into a shelter. For a whole year I lived there with all my family and I have wonderful memories of that time.
- My full name is Karla Elizabeth Marquez Castillo. Most of my family members and friends call me Karlita, people who don’t know me call me by my first and last name, my childhood friends from Mexico call me Karla Elizabeth all together, my Mexican friends here call me Amiga or Karlis but very few people call me by just my first name.
